President's Message                                    

Dear friends,

New board is committed to reaching out to members as frequent as possible and will make all efforts of engaging them. The new board is committed for a open and transparent dialogue with members. The attached newsletter is an endeavour in this direction.

This is a first attempt and room for improvement is always there. Please feel free in sending your suggestions and recommendations at president@iccconline.org or iccc@iccconline.org. Going forward a newsletter committee will be set up and board will sincerely try to improve wherever possible.

Know your Organization

Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce is a 37-year-old organization with twin objectives of fostering bilateral trade between Canada and India and creating entrepreneurial and professional opportunities for Indo-Canadians. It is run by a elected board with the help of various committees involving member.

ACTIVITIES IN JULY 2014

July 17: Annual General Meeting 2014

Annual general meeting of members was held on Jul 17, 2014, in which Dharma P. Jain was elected the 26th President of the Chamber. The three other directors elected for a two-year term at the meeting were Jagdish Bajaj, Sanjay Makkar, and Ginni Sethi.

The Chamber’s new board comprises:

1.       Dharma P. Jain, President
2.      Naval Bajaj, Immediate Past President, Chair India Mission & Centre for Excellence
3.      Tony Chawla, Vice President-Events
4.      Rajni Tekriwal, Vice President & Corporate Secretary
5.      Brij K. Sharma, Vice President-Finance & SME
6.      Pathik Baxi, Vice President-Membership & Legal Affairs
7.      Sanjay Makkar, Director-Affinity
8.     Ginni Sethi, Director- WEP
9.      Jagdish Bajaj, Director 

At the AGM, the Chamber also passed a Special Resolution for ICCC’s transition to new Federal Not-for-Profit Corporations Act. The Chamber will now apply for Certificate of Continuance under the new Act that will come into effect in October 2014.

AGM also resolved constituting 3 committees:

1. Governance committee

2. Nomination committee

3. Audit committee


ICCC’s New President

Dharma (DP) P. Jain was unanimously elected as the next president of the chamber by the directors. He was first elected to the ICCC’s board three years ago and has handled a variety of portfolios for the Chamber including finance, and affinity programs. Based in Brampton, Jain is an accomplished finance professional and practicing CGA serving to medium and small businesses. He has over 25 years of international experience. He holds a number of international designations. He is very active socially and professionally and sits on the board of several organizations. He also mentored new immigrants and helps them to build useful networks and familiarizes them with the Canadian work culture which ultimately eases their career path.

On being his election as president, Mr. Jain said, “The Chamber is a great business and commerce institution with deep roots in the Indian diaspora. It has achieved its status as a preeminent organization of Indo-Canadians because of the sterling contributions of many business and community leaders.”

He added, “I am confident I will succeed in steering the august institutions successfully to fulfill its twin mandates of fostering Canada-India trade relations and creating opportunities for Canadians of Indian origin.”

July 18: Mr. Dharma P Jain, President and Mr. Naval Bajaj, Immediate Past President, participated in an interactive session with Ministers, Member of Parliament (MPs), and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) came from the state of Andhra Pradesh, India at Pearson Convention Centre. This session was organised by Telugu Cultural Association of GTA. Newly elected president Mr. Jain was honored and delivered his remarks. He also shared his views for the next year’s India Mission 2015 which the ICCC will lead in the month of January.

July 21: Mr. Dharma P Jain, President ICCC met KMI Brokers for Chamber's group insurance facility, wherein an opportunity for Chamber members' group health insurance proposal was discussed. He discussed the future prospects of the company for annual sponsorship to the chamber and also for motivating other companies to do so. KMI Brokers sponsored “whole in one" of $10,000 for 2014 golf tournament and also agreed to do in future as well.

The next meeting with the KMI Brokers is due soon wherein they will be joining as corporate member and would talk further to become Chamber’s sponsor.

July 24: New board hold its first meeting wherein board assigned portfolios to directors and took several important decisions.

The New board filed Articles of continuance on Jul 23rd and got them issued by Industry Canada effective the date of filing i.e. July 23rd, 2014.

July 28: Mr. Dharma P Jain, President ICCC was interviewed by Priya Ramanujam, for Canadian Immigrant Magazine. The focus of the interview was to garner the advantages of community-specific mentoring by the chamber. This interview is expected to be published in their upcoming issue of September 2014.

Jul 29 (Golf 2014): Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) organised its 16th Annual Golf Classic. The tournament was an overwhelming success with over 140 enthusiastic amateur golfers having a great time on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Wooden Sticks Golf Club, Uxbridge, Ontario. 

In the past, ICCC’s golf tourneys have supported registered charities. However, this year's tournament revenue would be utilized for ICCC’s newly acquired headquarters at 924, The East Mall in Toronto.

The team comprising Manjeet Gill, Sudhir Anand, Preet Sandhu and Avtar Brar won the tournament. Dharma P Jain, President along with other board members and with Mr. Sandeep Mukherjee from TD Bank, presented the winning team with the rotating trophy. Mr. Jain thanked all the sponsors, golf committee members, volunteers for making this tournament a grand success. The ICCC golf committee comprises of Anil Shah (Chair), Rahul Mehta, Pradeep Sood, Tavinder Malhotra and Vikram Dua. 

NEW WEBSITE

Your chamber lost its old domain affecting a swift communication. However, new board took it seriously and utmost importance was given to this matter. A new website with a new domain name is up and running with all functionalities working. You all are encouraged to browse the website and feel free sending your suggestions in for further improvements.

Your suggestions are welcome for improvement in website content and design.

FUTURE EVENTS AND FUTURE PLANS

Board with the help of VP - Event, Mr. Tony Chawla, VP - Finance & SME, Mr. Brij Sharma and Director - WEP, Ms. Ginni Sethi is in the process of finalizing event calendar for the year 2014 - 2015.
