President's Message

I am pleased to convey that in continuation of ICCC’s work for developing Canada India bilateral trade relations and branding Canada in India; Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) will lead the trade mission to India in January 2015, which will provide an opportunity to Canadian small businesses to explore the Indian market. Delegates can actively participate in the Vibrant Gujarat 2015 and Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) in Gandhinagar, where Canada is declared as partner country.

The trade mission will focus on energy, education, science & technology, bilateral investment, food processing, tourism, construction and development, information technology and the services sector. ICCC welcomes the leaders in the Canadian Small and Medium sectors to join the India Mission 2015 and explore the emerging opportunities in India.

Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce is a 37-year-old organization with twin objectives of fostering bilateral trade between Canada and India and creating entrepreneurial and professional opportunities for Indo-Canadians. ACTIVITIES IN SEPTEMBER 2014

September 03: Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) in partnership with City of Brampton and City of Markham organised a business roundtable on, “Promoting Canada India Bilateral Trade & Investment” with a visiting international business delegation from India. The delegation was led by Mr. Bharat Lal and exploring the new areas for promoting bilateral trade and investment between Canada and India in sectors such as energy, education, information technology, finance and chemicals.

September 03: : Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) in partnership with City of Brampton and City of Markham organised a business reception for visiting ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ business delegation from India on 03 September 2014 in Toronto. The delegation was exploring the new areas for promoting bilateral trade and investment between Canada and India in sectors such as mining, energy, renewable energy, automotive industry, education, information technology, finance and infrastructure.

The delegation was led by Mr. Bharat Lal, Resident Commissioner who was also accompanied with Govt. Officials to promote the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit. The summit will be held in Gandhinagar from 11-13, January 2015 and will coincide with Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2015 (PBD2015). The year 2015 marks the centenary of the return of the greatest ‘Pravasi’ of all, Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa.

September 04: Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce participated in the second annual "Pay It Forward" legal networking event. This event was designed to connect professionals within the legal field with senior as well as young aspiring lawyers. The vision was to create long-term relations among industry professionals while mentoring students and fresh graduates.

September 06 & 07: Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce participated in The National Franchise & business Opportunities Show held at the International Centre. The ICCC members were given the free entry in the show.

September 8: Mr. Dharma P Jain, ICCC President and Mr. Naval Bajaj, Immediate past president had a luncheon meeting with Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council, our MOU partners and discussed the opportunity of holding a joint event..

September 11: The board of directors of Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) held a media interaction for discussing the future strategies of the chamber to engage different stakeholders for the promotion of Canada India bilateral trade relations and taking forward the twin mandate of the ICCC to provide a platform for community entrepreneurs and promoting the diaspora. 

September 12: ICCC President Mr. Jain along with Mr. Hardesh Marwaha, Director Information Technology met with Dr. Gurmeet Bambrah from CAPE (Council for Access to the Profession of Engineering Ontario, Toronto) and discussed the various schemes for government funding’s and grants for the not for profit organisations. Dr. Gurmeet has arranged receiving over $2m in Government funding to CAPE and graciously consented to help Chamber at no fee basis.

September 22: ICCC President Mr. Dharma P Jain met with Dr. Adam Kahan, Vice President, Ryerson University and discussed holding an open house for student membership and a joint event on education. Dr. Kahan agreed to arrange a visit to chamber members for the Ryerson's Research Facility and Digital Media Centre.  Ryerson also offered their conference hall for mining and energy related events and also discussed different scholarships programs for students.

September 24: ICCC president had a very constructive meeting with Sheldon Leiba, Executive Director, Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT), for organizing joint events and extending invitations in the events to each other.

September 25: ICCC president along with Mr. Tony Chawla, Vice President ICCC and Mr. Mukesh Narula, Chair Cricket Committee ICCC visited Minister Bal Gosal's office and discussed the ICCC’s sports forum. They also explored the possibilities of any support for the Sports Forum from the Federal Ministry of Sports.

September 25: Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) organised its hard hats tour of the Sigan Industries on 25 September, 2014, which was attended by ICCC members. This was an innovative learning opportunity for the members as they were given a privileged “behind the scenes” tour of Sigan Industries.

September 26: ICCC President along with Mr. Naval Bajaj, Immediate past president and Chair India Mission visited Asian Television Network (ATN) studio and had a wide range discussions with Dr. Shan Chandrasekar, CEO  & Founder of ATN on media sponsorship and also covering the ICCC events in their media network.

September 29: Mr. Dharma P Jain, Mr. Naval Bajaj, Mr. Tony Chawla, Mr. Brij K Sharma and Mr. Hardesh Marwaha visited the Canadian Capital City of Ottawa to attend the interactive dinner session with the Canadian parliamentarians organised by Member of Parliament Mr. Patrick Brown. ICCC board also had a meeting with the Deputy High Commissioner of India.

September 30: Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce in partnership with CIBC Wood Gundy organized a seminar on, “Saving for Retirement- A Strategy to Protect & Grow Your Wealth for Retirement” on 30 September 2014.

Board is considering of - 

i) Publishing achievements of members in the upcoming issues of ICCC newsletter. Therefore, members are advised to send their achievements such as new position, additional qualification, awards etc. at iccc@iccconline.org.

ii) Publishing articles on different topics involving trade, commerce, tax etc. Interested writers can send their articles (500 words) at iccc@iccconline.org.

iii) Starting blogs on Chamber's website.  Send your resumes and subjects you wish to write a blog.

iv) Constituting a newsletter committee. Those who have flare of writing, designing and passionate about this, send in their resumes at iccc@iccconline.org.

Board is there to steer this august body in the direction provided by articles and by-laws and ensuring that interest of various stakeholders is protected. 

Board invites your suggestions and opinions regarding future events, newsletter content, and ask you to get engaged more and more and participate in Chamber events. You are the true ambassador of Chamber and your board is working for you in. Please feel free in contacting any board member.
