The team led by Ajit Someshwar, the former President of Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) and the national convenor of the Canada-India Foundation (CIF), won the ICCC 17th Annual Golf Classic held the Piper Heath Golf Club in Hornby, ON, on Thursday, July 23, 2014.
Sanjay Makkar, President, ICCC, while presenting Someshwar and his team with a rotating trophy, acknowledged the dedicated hard work put in by ICCC’s Golf Committee, and thanked the enthusiastic band of 152 golfers who participated in the tourney. The Golf Committee comprises of Anil Shah (Chair), Rahul Mehta, Pradeep Sood, Tavinder Malhotra and Vikram Dua.
Both the venue and the weather were instrumental in the tremendous success of the tourney. The weather – a combination of balmy and breezy – was perfect for golfing, ensuring the participants had a great time. The venue also played an important role in enhancing the golfers’ experience. Piper’s Heath is a stunning 18-hole championship course designed by renowned golf course architect Graham Cooke that is strategically located in the heart of the Greater Toronto Area.
The golfers – an eclectic combination of the Chamber’s long-time and new members, and guests – began arriving early-morning. The tournament started at 11:00 am with a shotgun start – scramble format. As the day drew to an end, the golfers gathered together for a cocktail reception at the Piper’s Pub and Patio and to enjoy a sumptuous dinner.
Addressing them Mr. Makkar pledged to make his tenure as the Chamber’s President a year of change, a time when the venerated Chamber would both live up to its traditions and chart a fresh path of achievements.
He emphasized that the new board would be actively pursuing a number of initiatives that would directly benefit members, their businesses and professions. The year of change would also lead to a quantum leap in the Chamber’s membership, he assured.
In the past, ICCC’s golf tourneys have supported registered charities. However, this year the revenue generated from the tournament would be utilized for ICCC’s newly acquired headquarters at 924, The East Mall in Toronto.
Mr. Makkar expressed immense satisfaction for the success of the tournament, and said he was especially pleased with the presence of colleagues, past presidents, golf committee members. He also announced the appointment of Mr. Tavinder Malhotra as the next chair of the Golf Committee.
Mr. Malhotra replaces Mr. Anil Shah, who has completed his term as the Chair of the Golf Committee. Mr. Makkar thanked Mr. Shah for taking the ICCC Golf to a new level, and “make it one of the best golf tournament in the country.”
Mr. Makkar thanked to all sponsors, golf committee members, volunteers and staff for making this tournament a grand success.
