Director and Committee Chairs nominated 
In a series of fresh appointments aimed at taking the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) in a new direction, and also to give a fresh impetus to the momentum that was generated following the elections of six new board members in June, the President of the Chamber Sanjay Makkar announced the nomination of a new member to the board, and the appointment of six chairs to the Chamber’s committees. 
Mr. Makkar and the board appointed Shivani Sharma-Gupta as the nominated director of the Chamber. Shivani Sharma-Gupta is a widely traveled and an ambitious entrepreneur who graduated from University of Toronto, specializing in Human Resources & Business Administration. She is the Director of Crown Group of Hotel and Vice-President of Quality Hotel in Burlington and Courtyard by Marriott in Brampton. She has raised the bar in all aspects of operations and has been recognized with the Gold Award for property performance. In a short span of time her contributions to hospitality have been well rewarded and the growth pattern established, documented and recognized. Shivani also comes equipped with an abundance of human resource knowledge and event planning experience.

Ajay Tandon, has been assigned the new portfolio of Director of Tourism and Hospitality: Ajay was elected director in June. He is the CEO of Canadian Travel Services, a fast growing complete travel solution and Aviation Company specializing in projects across the globe. A proven global leader in travel industry from South Asia, Middle East, Europe , Africa, Central Asia and Canada. Ajay joined travel industry in Islands of Maldives with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines & during two decades in Airline management and Corporate Travel, took challenging posts in UAE Dubai & Abu Dhabi, Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Yemen achieved numerous awards. KLM & Alliances awarded the highest honor in sales for Middle East and South Asia.

In a special appeal to members, both the President Mr. Makkar, and the new director of the tourism and hospitality, have requested qualified and interested members to come forward to become members of the newly-formed Tourism and Hospitality Committee. The committee will be actively promoting the tourism and hospitality sector, and encourage two-way trade in the sector. It may be recalled, that both the governments in Canada and India have been actively promoting tourism.

Among the Committee Chairs that were appointed are: 

Anil Dasaratha, Chair of Information Technology Committee: Anil comes with 19+ years of IT experience spanning across multiple geographies which includes India, Canada, USA, Singapore, Philippines, Australia, UK, Germany, Saudi Arabia and UAE. His expertise includes Consulting, Sales & Delivery for premier clients across the globe. Anil is employed with IBM since 2005 helping clients in Strategic Planning, Go-to Market Strategy, Business Transformation, Technology Adoption and Process Improvement leading to increased revenue in sales and reduction in operational cost for their business. Anil has successfully lead engagements for clients in the areas of Enterprise Design, Implementation, Modernization, Project & Change Management, Financial Forecasting, Contract & Cost Management, Quality Management, Outsourcing and Support of Business IT systems.

Avin Mehra, Chair, New Immigrants Committee: Avinash (Avin) Mehra is a Vice President & Portfolio Manager, with CIBC Wood Gundy- the Wealth Management Arm, of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. He is widely acclaimed as one of the few avid practitioners of Options as defensive tools in Portfolio Management & has appeared on the panel of experts for Montreal Exchange (MX) , with a mandate to teach Wealth Managers, the use of options as defensive tools, in the  money management of their client portfolios. Avin migrated to Canada in 1990, had progressive responsibility in Commercial Banking & Trade Finance in CIBC, working as a Coach & Sales Team leader with Trade Finance Division, before joining the Wealth Management industry, at Merrill Lynch, in May 2000. He has taught Mathematics, Law & Banking Courses in India, UK, Bahamas, Miami & Canada. Currently, he conducts regular seminars in diverse financial topics, including options, stock markets, taxation, financial planning etc. 
Shibani Sahney, Chair, Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals Committee: Shibani is a Markham resident was born in New Delhi, India. Brought up as an Army daughter along with an older sister, she was Covent educated in different schools all over India. She did her Honors in English literature from Delhi University .After which she got her hands on training with her mother at Silver Tulip Boutique, New Delhi. She got married to Kamal Sahney in Delhi after which she and her husband immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1997.She is a mother of 2 children. She is one of the designers and the owner of Silver Tulip Boutique. She runs her business from 177 Main Street Unionville. In 2011 Shibani along with a few entrepreneurs started a women's networking group which eventually merged with ICCC in 2013. 

Sameer Sharma, Chair, Young Entrepreneurs and Professionals Committee: Sameer graduated from University of Toronto. He was elected as Marketing Director for the Department of Management for the University. After graduation he joined the Quality Hotel in Burlington as the Director of Sales and headed all operations for the years 2013 and 2014. During his tenure at the hotel, we received the Choice Hotels Canada Gold Award for 2014.  Quality Hotel Burlington was also recognized as the Top 10 Hotels in Canada. He is also serving as Vice President of the Courtyard by Marriott Brampton.

Tavinder Malhotra, Chair, Golf Committee: Tavinder is a veteran member of the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce and has been active with the Chamber’s Golf Committee since its inception. Tavinder and a select group of golf enthusiasts have kept the golf tournament alive amongst the Chamber’s members, and helped maintain its popularity. A financial professional,  Tavinder is the principal at Mansha Financial Group Limited. He is an expert in insurance and other related financial sector specializations, and has been practicing since the early 1980s.

Mr. Makkar, while making the announcement, also said that the chairs of the Chamber’s other committees will also be finalized by the end of August.
