Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev, who is also an ace golfer, was the star attraction at the 18th Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce’s Charity Golf Classic tournament at the Glen Abby Golf Club in Oakville Monday June 13.

The annual golf event is a traditional meeting place for the veteran and the new members of the Chamber. In fact, some members are regulars at the golf event, and participate in the tourney because the Chamber contributes the proceeds to a charity. This year, the ICCC contributed $13,000 to the Humber River Hospital. The tournament was an overwhelming success with over 130 enthusiastic amateur golfers having a great time.

Kapil Dev said that he was happy and proud to be playing golf here in Canada. Kapil Dev is an avid golfer for over two decades, having started golfing in 1994. He has represented India at the Asia-Pacific Senior Championship held in October 2015 in China.

The team comprising Ajit Someshwar, Anil Shah, Curren Holla and Harry Singh won the tournament. Sanjay Makkar, President, ICCC and Tavinder Malhotra, Chair Golf Committee presented the winning team with the rotating trophy.

Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Makkar emphasized that the Chamber has taken important measures to ensure accountability of public finances. Talking about his team’s efforts, the ICCC President said, “We have brought the Chamber back to its basic principles of ensuring deliverables on Canada-India economic ties and creating opportunities for Indo-Canadians.”

Among the other personalities who joined the event included Raptors TV’s Leo Rytis Rautins, a Canadian broadcaster, former professional basketball player and the former head coach of the Canadian men’s national basketball team, and Sherman Hamilton, a retired Canadian professional basketball player. Hamilton was a long-time member of the Canadian men’s national basketball team. He is currently a basketball analyst for Sportsnet and NBA TV Canada. The Raptor’s Mascot and the Raptor’s Dance Pack put in a special appearance.
